Extract from this report

  • According to our estimates, the market for imaging diagnostics reached the value of close to PLN 674m (€156m) in 2009. We estimate that the value of the imaging diagnostics market will exceed PLN 1bn (€231m) in 2012.
  • Standard ultrasound equipment is most frequently installed in private sector establishments. The most advanced devices are purchased by large public institutions such as university hospitals.
  • In our opinion, analogue devices will be gradually pushed out of the market to be replaced by both digitalised analogue units and fully-digital systems. This trend will be the chief driving force behind the segment’s growth.

Market commentary by expert

Diagnostic imaging market in Poland remains underdeveloped relative to its counterparts in other European countries – the queues for some test preformed within the frameworks of the National Health Fund (NFZ) as several month’s long. A significant proportion of equipment used for diagnostic imaging in Poland is out-of-date and in need of replacement, which will have a material bearing on the growth of this market. In addition, the procurement of imaging equipment is stimulated by “The National Programme for Combating Cancer” and EU funds. The segment’s development is also being fostered by the growth of the sector of private medical healthcare – private out-patient clinics as well as hospitals which in order to remain competitive and prestigious are investing in top-of-the-line diagnostic equipment. For all these reasons, PMR decided to prepare a report that takes a comprehensive look at this market as well as opportunities and barriers that prevail on it for engaging in business.
