Extract from this report

  • Non-residential construction remained the dominant force on the Slovak construction industry, accounting for approximately 48% of total Slovak construction output in 2010.

  • Road construction is likely to remain one of the main drivers which might help the country’s construction industry to stop its decline in 2011 and over the following few years.

Market commentary by expert

Despite the return to GDP growth in 2010, certain sectors of the Slovak economy continued to feel the impact of the overall downturn and fiscal restrictions. One of these sectors was the construction industry, which saw an almost 5% decline last year. Builders, however, predict that construction activity is starting to recover, a prediction which will be further supported by the government’s planned investment in motorways, expressways, and housing development.
