  • Grand sport events held in Poland (and abroad) stimulate interest in sports. Sport events due to take place in 2016 include the 2016 UEFA European Championship in France, the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and the European Men's Handball Championship in Poland.
  • Cycling, running and swimming are sports activities typically practised by Poles. At the same time, these activities are highly popular across all age groups, regardless of the place of residence, gender or education level.
  • Football, volleyball and basketball are the most popular team sports. Successes achieved by Poland’s national teams and clubs do not instantly translate into greater popularity of a given sport, as evidenced by a low number of people who play handball.
