Extract from this report

  • In 2010-2012 the average number of computers per one enterprise employing between 50 and 249 people did not change, and reached 42 computers on average, however the proportions have changed in favour of mobile solutions (up by 3 p.p.).
  • In the SME sector more than a half (59%) of companies use external IT service providers. These are usually medium-sized companies with high revenues.
  • A majority of outlays on ICT in small and medium-sized enterprises is spent on telecommunications (in a 6:4 ratio with IT), although in financial and utility enterprises there is an opposite tendency.

Market commentary by expert

The segment of small and medium enterprises is currently of vital importance in terms of growth potential for the products and services offered by ICT providers. Although large companies spend relatively more on new technology purchases, the segment is saturated and competition is at the very intense. It comes as no surprise, therefore, that providers are interested in smaller businesses and are going deeper in their search for new clients. The SME segment is still the area with the lowest penetration rate, where the saturation with various ICT solutions suggests high sale potential and possibilities. The enterprise base is also promising – according to different estimates there could be up to 140,000 businesses employing 10-249 staff, whereas there are just over 5,000 large companies in Poland. As a result, the relatively small penetration rate growth for ICT solutions in the SME segment in practice translates into thousands of sold devices or applications.
