Extract from this report

  • The coming years will see further expansion of the non-public hospital base in Poland. According to our estimations based on information obtained from firms, excluding transformations of public hospitals, it will involve around 25 investments (hospitals built from scratch) with completion deadlines in 2012-2014. Additionally, two companies – InterHealth Canada and PCZ Instytut Medyczny – have revealed plans to open hospitals in 2015.
  • The biggest group of respondents, as many as 80%, believe that the law on therapeutic activity from July 2011 has not had any impact on the condition of the non-public hospital market (some respondents were of the opinion that it was too early to judge the results). 16% of respondents had a negative view on the effects of the introduction of the new law at the moment of the survey.

Market commentary by expert

Over the coming years the growth of private hospitals is going to be moving towards large multidisciplinary hospitals and centres specialising in services until now reserved for public hospitals (e.g. oncology). Initially, private operators invested mainly in the market of outpatient services, opening private health centres. Later, centres offering one-day services began appearing, followed by private profiled hospitals. Private companies will of course continue to develop all these kinds of activity. At the same time, more non-public hospitals will be created through transformations forced on by the law on therapeutic activity. The increase in the number of non-public hospitals has been boosted in recent years mainly by the so-called Plan B.
