IT market in Russia – did you know…

Did you know...
Exports of Russian software solutions and IT services continued to grow in the period of the economic crisis.
More than 90% of the database market in Russia is in the hands of three suppliers.
The only sub-segment of the system integration market in Russia which showed stable growth in 2010 was IT security integration services.
The economic crisis pushed quick development of internet sales of computers in Russia.
Software sales are still the smallest subsection of the Russian IT market.
Almost every big vendor in Russia has already built a network of system integrators which provide implementation services for their applications.
A significant increase in the sales of computer monitors in Russia was observed in the last quarter of 2010, which equaled to 34% of the annual sales.
  • It is the largest IT market in the whole CEE region – approx. €10bn in 2010. In comparison, the Polish IT market is more than a half of the figure.
  • The level of IT per capita spending is still very low, which means the market will be growing in the future.
  • Before the financial crisis broke out, Russia had been one of the fastest growing IT markets in the whole CEE region (after Ukraine and Romania).
  • There is a growing interest in the market on the side of foreign vendors.
  • The domestic IT market (companies as well as public administration) is strongly underinvested.

Market commentary by expert

The Russian IT market has bounced back. In fact, all of the sectors of the market reported better results in 2010 in comparison with 2009. The improvement of the Russian economy after the financial crisis has also had a significant impact on the confidence of domestic companies. The crisis has showed that efficiency of the business, flexibility and financial control are critical for survival, and that IT is an essential element of these business capabilities.

Russian companies are still far from being saturated with IT systems. Besides the biggest traditional IT spenders i.e. telecoms, oil and gas and financial sector, we expect growth of the demand from the retail and manufacturing industries. We also expect that government efforts and investments will have a positive impact on the IT market, especially in 2011-2012 when the development of governmental e-services is going to take place.
