Extract from this report

  • Last year the market was making up for losses suffered during the crisis in 2009. In 2010, the value of the Polish market grew to PLN 25.9bn. The growth reached 5.8%.

  • In 2010, the number of employees in the IT industry exceeded 400,000. Wages in the broadly defined IT industry are among the highest in Poland. The average monthly salary of an IT specialist reached PLN 4,500 in 2010.

  • There is still a considerable disproportion between the remuneration on various management levels and dependence of salaries on the job title.

  • According to the estimates in mid-2011, there were about 8,500 entities linked with the IT industry on the Polish market. The structure of the market has not changed significantly. We still estimate that more than 90% of IT firms in Poland are small enterprises.

  • The largest player on the Polish IT market was Asseco.

Market commentary by expert

Despite the growing saturation of the Polish market of IT solutions, several positive trends were visible in 2010, which may have lasting impact on the general condition of the industry. In the hardware segment, an increase was noted in the sales of portable computers, which today account for the majority of the computer market, both in volume and value terms. At the same time, on the software market the recent economic slowdown has led to higher interest in Business Intelligence solutions. Market is also developing thanks to the rising demand on part of small and medium companies in enterprise management solutions. A decisive improvement on the Polish IT market, meaning a return of demand from institutional and business clients, is still to come. Based on data for 2010 – with a much better second half of the year, the outlook for the future is moderately upbeat.
