Extract from this report

  • The top ten regions account for 52% of the total construction output registered in Russia.
  • The average capacity use rate in the Russian construction industry currently hovers around 60%, which is higher than the 2009-2010 levels but also well below the 66% observed in Q1 2008.
  • Last year, almost two-thirds of Russia’s federal subjects posted growth in residential construction, which is a marked improvement over 2009, when a year-on-year decline was observed in more than a half.

Market commentary by expert

Whereas Russia’s economy is believed to have already recovered from the crisis, the construction industry is set to resume growth in the forthcoming months, evidenced by the growing value of construction contracts signed. While the residential and non-residential markets remain subdued, construction activity in the country is being boosted by infrastructure development. In the short term, projects related to the Sochi Olympics and the Vladivostok APEC Summit are of greatest importance, and in the medium and long term, the construction sector will be fostered by the need to build stadiums, hotels and the necessary transport infrastructure for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
