"In 2016, the number of dedicated internet access services in mobile networks in Poland increased to more than 9 million, 1.5 million more than the number of fixed access lines. Mobile networks are a key factor that puts pressure on fixed-line providers. Mobile internet is a viable alternative to fixed-line services. It has already proven to be effective in both reducing the growth of new subscribers in fixed-line networks and attracting the existing clients of such services. Taking into account further development of LTE networks, the pressure will even grow. For some customers, mobile data service is already ensuring the appropriate parameters.

However, our conversations with operators show that an average monthly data consumption in fiber-optic networks and for subscribers using higher bandwidths (60 Mbitps and more) exceeded 100 GB per month in the second half of 2016. Those clients will not use mobile networks, as usually such solutions aren’t cost-effective, even without taking into account the quality of the internet link. On the other hand, the majority of subscribers still use 30 GB per month, and that's the level at which the services of mobile operators can be highly competitive.

Another issue is the growing penetration of smartphones in Poland and the growth of content consumption with the use of phone. In the case of the B2B market segment, M2M communication should be also taken into account. Undoubtedly, mobile internet and non-voice services is a strategic area for mobile networks."
