Networking equipment market in Central and Eastern Europe shaped by 3G investments and SME and SOHO growth in 2009 - May 2010

Investments in 3G networks have been dominant within infrastructural investments in the CEE region, beginning in 2006. At the same time, infrastructural investments have been determining not only the value of the networking equipment market for the telecoms sector but also its growth rate. This was the consequence of its broad influence on the IP-level networking equipment market as well as on the market of 3G modems. On the other hand, sales of networking equipment for the corporate sector in 2009 experienced decline while those of SOHO and SME continued with double-digit growth.

Unquestionably, the segment of infrastructural investments from mobile operators in the CEE region in the period of 2007 2010 was dominated by development of the 3G signal. However, the 3G standard in the region was implemented at different times on different markets. These investments were at the peak in Poland in 2007 and before (with the exception of P4), while in Russia in the same year the first 3G licences were granted.
