Russian building machinery market may recover in 2010 - May 2009

The economic crisis and uncertainty prevailing in the Russian construction industry has prompted construction companies to suspend their asset upgrading programmes. Monthly sales of road and construction machinery in Russia dropped by more than 30% at the end of 2008 and continued to fall during the first quarter of 2009. Market in 2009 is expected to shrink by at least 15%. At the same time, demand for construction equipment has a good chance of recovering on the wave of Russian government’s infrastructure development plans, Sochi-2014 Olympic Games and residential construction support.
