Clothing and footwear retailers in Central and Eastern Europe - March 2009

The enlargement process of the EU and the gradual building up of the internal market has meant increasing competition in the clothing and footwear sector and has provided an opportunity for retailers to source manufacturing activities to low-wage countries in Central and Eastern Europe. The new member states also represent potential target markets for clothing and footwear retailers. However, 2009 is likely to bring new challenges given the slowdown in the global economy.
