The clinical trials market in CIS countries continues to grow - February 2012

Clinical trials in the CIS countries have been developing in a positive fashion (with the exception of Russia, whose development slowed for a while as a result of significant changes in regulations). The expected average growth in value will reach 14% and approximately 13% by volume in the years 2012-2014, according to the newest PMR Publications report “Clinical trials in CIS countries 2012 – Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Georgia. Development forecasts for 2012-2014”. Despite some turmoil in legislation, the countries will attract investors due to relatively low costs and large population willing to participate in clinical trials.

According to our estimates, the total clinical trials market value in the CIS countries analysed exceeded $532m (€403m) in 2010 and reached $633 (€479m) in 2011 (an increase by 19% y-o-y). The largest proportion of this value was accounted by Russia – 63%, and Ukraine – 33% in 2011.
